CORONAVIRUS UPDATES: TANZANIA & KILIMANJARO CLIMB STATUS

Tanzania has reopened and we have been running all climbs and safaris on schedule. If you’re vaccinated you just need to bring proof of vaccination. It’s that simple!

If you’re unvaccinated you need to get a negative PCR test within 72 hours of your departing flight.

Pre-arrival & Arrival.

Vaccinated: Bring proof of vaccination.
Unvaccinated: Negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure.
This is not currently needed but if available fill out the health surveillance form at: https://afyamsafiri.moh.go.tz/
Departure from Tanzania

Tanzania no longer requires testing prior to departure. Check on the requirements of the country that you are traveling to from Tanzania. Some countries such as the US still require a rapid test for entry which will be checked at the airport in Tanzania.. Rapid tests are available at the Kilimanjaro Airport and can be processed quickly. PCR Covid tests can be arranged upon request and can take up to 48 hours.

The in-country PCR test is booked at the website: https://pimacovid.moh.go.tz/#/booking

When your test is complete you will get an email with the results. You must present this email in order to exit the country.

We will help you arrange testing in Moshi but the cost is not included as part of our climbing or safari packages. Testing can be completed the same day you complete the climb or even at a mobile testing site while on safari.

Safety Protocol in Tanzania

Our guides and office team in Tanzania have just completed a government safety training on Covid safety and will be strictly following safety procedures. We will be taking the following steps to ensure your safety during the climb.

All team members have been trained in Covid-19 prevention protocol.
Cleaning and disinfection of all climbing gear and equipment after every climb.
Proper hand sanitization of crew members and guides.
All food packaging and cooking areas will be properly cleaned and sanitized.
Current Situation Updates

Tanzania has been fortunate so far and has only reported a small number of Covid-19 cases. We are closely monitoring the situation in Tanzania and will be updating this blog post on a regular basis as new information becomes available.

We take our guest’s safety very seriously and always recommend following US State Department and CDC travel guidelines. The latest updates can be viewed on the following links:

Rescheduling Policy

The situation with the Coronavirus has many travelers very nervous and is a common question from our guests. We understand that personal safety concerns or country specific travel restrictions may make travel currently impossible.

At this point we are not refunding deposits for trips cancelled due to this outbreak. This is stated in our “Terms of Service.” We use your deposit to make necessary payments ahead of your arrival, such as hotel accommodations, park fees, permits, staff salaries, and other operating expenses. The reason for our cancellation clause “due to events beyond our control” is that if something catastrophic happens and everyone cancels at the same time we are not in a position to refund multiple deposits.

This does not change our dedication to top-quality customer service. So, what are your options?

Reschedule Free of Cost.We will apply your deposit to a new date. You don’t need to decide on the date now. We will hold your booking deposit until you’re ready to plan whether it’s later this year or even in 2022. Please notify us of your cancellation at least 30 days before your trip.

Travel Insurance. Many travel insurance policies cover lost trip costs including deposits. We will help you with any necessary documentation for your claim.

Choose a Different Trip. We lead treks and tours to Nepal, Tanzania, Patagonia, Antarctica, Bhutan, Peru and Ecuador. If you would like to change your destination we can apply your deposit towards a different trip.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this time of crisis.
